Queer View Mirror: The History of Antipodean Drag with Art Simone

Legendary Naarm Drag queen Art Simone joins the QVM team to chat about the rich, colourful history of drag performance art in Australia and her own personal evolution as a drag artist.

Art’s new book Drag Queens Down Under: Australia’s Drag Superstars in Glorious Technicolour is an anthology profiling 30 of Australia’s legendary drag performers, from beloved Queens and Kings to legends of the underground scenes.

“Drag is so ingrained in Aussie culture, from Aunty Jack, Dame Edna, Les Girls to Priscilla on and on and on. Drag is so essential to us… through these thirty fabulous drag art artists… I like to say drag artists as we have more than just drag queens in this book… we have all these different windows and gateways and sectors into our beautiful and delicate drag scene here and our queer scene”
