Johnathon World Peace Bush on exhibition Everything That Came Before Makes The Present

Tiwi artist Johnathon World Peace Bush yarned about his art practice and solo exhibition Everything that came before makes the present.

During the conversation, Johnathon spoke about how he uses natural materials from his home country on the Tiwi Islands, the importance of culture and responsibility to his family and community in his arts practice.

He also spoke about the crossover between his Aboriginal heritage and Tiwi culture, with the introduction of religion to the Tiwi Islands - which is visible in his paintings with images of Catholic figures using a traditional Tiwi style.

Deborah Cheetham Fraillon AO on opera Parrwang Lifts The Sky

Yorta Yorta/Yuin soprano, composer, and artistic director Deborah Cheetham Fraillon AO spoke about talk about Parrwang Lifts the Sky, an opera created for people of all ages during NAIDOC Week.

The opera is based on an original story from Wadawurrung Country told to the children of the Wathaurong by community Elder, the late Uncle David Tournier.

Deborah also spoke about the growing work of Short Black Opera - a national Indigenous not-for-profit organisation specialising in training and performance opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performing artists.
