Bron and Dr Beach explore ‘Ocean Mind’, the imminent arrival of the Giant Spider Crabs, effects of floods on marine ecosystems, and the impact of commonly used sunscreens to tropical corals.
• Ocean Mind is a charity that provides therapeutic surf programs services for young people aged 8 - 18 years experiencing mental health challenges, social isolation and disabilities. We’ll speak with Founder and Board Member Emily Box about how Ocean Mind’s work with young people experiencing disadvantage leads to enrichment and growth through surfing.
• Dr Elodie Camprasse, Deakin University brings us the latest news on the anticipated arrival of the giant Spider Crabs, including how those underwater cameras are going, and the last fortnight of iNaturalist reports.
• Shaun Burnicle and Amber Bury, third-year science students from Deakin University, join us to talk about flood impacts on marine life
• And in ‘Life’s a Beach’, Dr Beach discusses why a common sunscreen ingredient may be toxic to corals, and, modelling on how ocean acidification may badly affect the most important of our phytoplankton.
