Uncommon Sense: Professor Brendan Crabb Explains What "Living With COVID" Really Means
Professor Brendan Crabb AC, Director and CEO of the Burnet Institute, joins Amy to reflect on how the pandemic and SARS-CoV-2 virus has evolved. He addresses the myths and misinformation around what the virus is, how it is spread, and why we must do all we can to reduce transmission. Brendan says, "If you care about vulnerable people and protecting your community more generally, you have to care about transmission... If you care about Long COVID, you have to care about transmission."
Brendan also discusses the long-term health effects of COVID-19, including Long COVID. He explains, "We have this one-dimensional focus on acute disease… but what a blind spot we have to ongoing chronic issues. We know enough to know that’s nuts."
He also explains what a vaccines plus strategy is and why it's needed now more than ever. "My challenge to all policy-makers is get on board the airborne mitigation revolution… We demand clean water, let’s demand clean air in our publicly-shared spaces," says Crabb.
