Breaking and Entering: Exploring the World of Allee Willis with Director Alexis Spraic

Director Alexis Spraic joins Lauren Taylor and Simon Winkler on Breaking and Entering to discuss her documentary The World According to Allee Willis screening as part of MIFF's Music on Film program. The film explores the life of prolific artist Allee Willis, known for writing the Friends theme song and hits for Earth, Wind & Fire and the Pet Shop Boys amongst many others.

Alexis Spraic took on the monumental task of crafting a documentary that celebrates Willis's unique vision and creative spirit. From her childhood in 1950s Detroit, her life as a cultural icon in LA's 1980s scene, through to her innovations in early internet culture, Willis was always a beacon of individuality and self-expression.

"She left so much to be discovered. And I think looking at it, the wonderful thing about Allee Willis in her lifetime is that she was this beacon of individuality and self-expression, and she really inspired people around her to live and pursue their creative impulses and to be a little bit more themselves."

The documentary features interviews with celebrities like Lily Tomlin and Paul Reubens, offering insights into Willis's multifaceted career and her lasting influence on music, technology, and popular culture.
