The Score: The National Grief Helpline Is Shutting Down
The National Grief Helpline is shutting down on March 18, 2025 due to insufficient Government funding.
An important service to the Australian public, The Griefline has provided free critical support to prevent mental ill-health including depression and suicide for those needing grief and bereavement support.
Samira Farah spoke with Griefline’s CEO Kate Cahill about the work of Griefline and what will be lost when the phoneline is shut down this month.
“Griefline exists because we think it’s heartbreaking that people feel overwhelmed and isolated in their grief. We think that happens because grief is misunderstood and it’s often dismissed in Australia’s ‘She’ll be Right’ culture – and that’s why we provide free support”.
UPDATE - March 18, 2025 Funding has now been restored for Griefline for 2024-2025, allowing the to continue operations.
