The Score: Palestinian Singer-Songwriter and Producer, YARA, on her EP, Lonely Love Affair
YARA migrated from the land of olives and vines, Palestine, at the age of 12. Her sound is a melting pot of soul, pop, indie R&B, and jazz. She made her debut on 2020’s International Women’s Day with a bold track: ‘Man Hater,' a song about how society treats those who request change. Shortly after, she released her introspective single ‘Back of the Uber’ on Valentine’s Day, the first cut from her intimate EP, Lonely Love Affair, which made its debut in May 2023. It explores YARA's coming of age, finding self-love and acceptance in the lonely hours, between stumbling in and out of people’s hearts.
YARA's homeland, Palestine, is at the heart of all that she does. She curated two Naarm in solidarity with Palestine events in collaboration with MUDRAT which brought together local artists to raise funds to assist a Palestinian family in exiting Gaza.
YARA joins Nana for the last hour of the show to chat all about her creative process, growing up in Palestine, backing yourself as an independent artist, being featured on the Heartbreak High soundtrack, and much more.
Keep up with YARA here.
