The International Pop Underground: Playing Dance Music with Live Instruments is the Classic Porij Sound
On their debut LP, Teething, UK quartet Porij wanted to capture that "classic Porij sound".
So what is that sound?
"Maybe it's more of a feeling than a particular sound," considers the band's singer, Egg (AKA Scout Moore).
"We started because we wanted to play dance music with live instruments. So it's like euphoric dance music with feeling."
Across three early EPs and their first LP, there's plenty of feels, with Egg's personal vocals set against drum'n'bass and 2step rhythms. It's made for an interesting mix that's drawn varied listeners and remained hard to explain.
On The International Pop Underground with Anthony Carew, Egg talks about their childhood music lessons, their mum's illustrative use of Joni Mitchell as teaching aide, Porij's chaotic beginnings, the making of Teething, and the tumultuousness of one's mid-20s.
