The International Pop Underground: Naima Bock's 2nd LP is a Wildly Beautiful Record About Getting Older
"I don't think I can be an authority on getting older," says Naima Bock. "But it's kind of a nice crossroads, being in your late-20s."
The 27-year-old, London-based songwriter is talking about her wildly beautiful second album, Below A Massive Dark Land, and the fact that aging is its predominant theme.
"It's kind of a nice crossroads, being in your late-20s... A large part [of the album] is about getting older, and that did happen without me realising. Then I listened to the whole record and I was like: 'oh, that's a big theme'.
"I didn't know it was a big theme in my life, but I've gone on to realise. But that's the fun thing about writing songs: you learn things about yourself that you didn't know."
Speaking with Anthony Carew on The International Pop Underground, Bock talks about getting older, imagining looking back on her life, travelling, touring, and her wide list of inspirations: Polish authors, late-period Jodorowsky movies, classic country artists and early-'10s indie buzz acts.
