"I think that things should retain their mystique," says Jessica Pratt.

The 37-year-old Californian singer-songwriter is talking —on The International Pop Underground with Anthony Carew— about her music, and her new album, Here In The Pitch. But she's not out to explain it entirely.

So, whilst Pratt can identify "themes of paranoia and a plotting, scheming sort of feeling" that recur across the record, she also knows that there's mysterious elements in there, even for her.

"It's probably better to never know exactly where things come from," Pratt says. "Even if you try, you might not be able ever to fully explain it."
