The International Pop Underground: Charlotte Day Wilson Wanted to Make a Record That Sounded Good in Her Car
Charlotte Day Wilson had a simple goal for her second album, Cyan Blue: "I was interested in doing something that would sound good in my car," she says.
As someone who largely spends her time in Los Angeles —and who does this interview literally from her car— it makes sense that Wilson would have such a goal.
"I've loved cars my whole life, even though they're environmentally not good for the planet. Listening to music in the car is a great experience, you know? I wanted to make something that hit hard in the car."
On her early EPs and debut album, 2021's Alpha, the 30-year-old Canadian artist was self-producing and playing most of the music.
But wanting to escape feelings of second-guessing and self-criticism, she worked on Cyan Blue with producer Jack Rochon, which led her to work more quickly, more instinctually.
Speaking with Anthony Carew on The International Pop Underground, Wilson talks about her new album, her music, her hate of childhood piano lessons and much more.
