Sleater-Kinney —the iconic indie-rock outfit fronted by dual guitarist/vocalists Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker— formed 30 years ago in Olympia, Washington.

Within the first year of their existence, they ended up half a world away, in Melbourne, where they recorded their self-titled 1995 debut LP.

"There's a feeling, a fondness, an affection I have towards the city. Because it reminds me of the early days of Sleater-Kinney," Brownstein offers.

"Melbourne is one of those places that feels connected to who we are as a band, and how we started. It's where we made certain decisions, and recorded our first album, and [experienced] all these really important, crucial moments at the beginning of our journey."

In an in-depth conversation with Anthony Carew on The International Pop Underground, Brownstein discusses the beginnings of the band, their latest LP, Little Rope, and so much in between.
