It’s been ten years since Naarm locals Black Cab released Games of the XXI Olympiad.

A concept album about the very juiced-up 1976 Montreal Summer Olympic Games, it was an immediate classic when it released and a former Triple R Album Of The Week.

Black Cab’s Andrew Coates joined Kate Kingsmill to reflect on the album’s impact, the strangeness of the Montreal 1976 Olympics and the oddness of putting on a show hours before the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“The East-Germans wanted to show that they’d really figured out how to make humans better and they were going to show it off at the Olympics… I find these stories very amusing.”
