The Australian Mood: Reflecting on 40 Years with The Stems

Dom Mariani, a key figure in the '80s Perth garage rock scene with The Stems, joined Neil Rogers to discuss the band’s 40th anniversary tour.

The Stems, celebrated for their seamless blend of '60s garage rock and '70s power pop, are making a comeback with new music, a live album, and an extensive Australian and European tour.

During the interview, Dom spoke about the challenges of curating a setlist that honours their legacy while incorporating fresh material, including their new single Falling from the Sky.

The tour, which kicks off with shows in Castlemaine and Melbourne, will also see the band performing in Spain and Italy, bringing their timeless sound to audiences old and new. Mariani also hinted at future projects, including a potential solo endeavour, ensuring that The Stems’ legacy will continue to evolve.

“It was unknown to us that our support band, The Garden Path, recorded both their set and ours. Once we found out, we got in touch, and now we’ve got a mixed live album out of it.”
