Spin Cycle: Rick Morton on Corporate Thrillers, Robodebt and Mean Streaks
The Spin Cycle team are joined by award-winning journalist and author Rick Morton around the release of his new book, Mean Streak, which chronicles one of the most shocking modern scandals in Australian politics – Robodebt.
Pieced together following years of dedicated investigative reporting, Rick unravels intricate conspiracy of how Australia’s government targeted its most vulnerable citizens in a scheme to make them pay back erroneous fake debts, then worked overtime to cover it all up.
“I’m not afraid to say that I love reading a good corporate thriller, The Fall Of Enron: The Smartest Guys In The Room… also the Theranos Elizabeth Holmes stuff, Bad Blood – an incredible piecing together of the hubris and ego of the people that tried to get away with these conspiracies or mosaic failures. That’s exactly what happened here. It just so happens that the corporation was [the] government.”
Mean Streak is out now via HarperCollins.
