SmartArts: Learning About The Exotic Life Of Lola Montez
Oliver Coleman is joined in studio by local burlesque legend Moira Finucane and Operatic diva Piera Dinnerstein to discuss the Melbourne premiere of The Exotic Lives of Lola Montez.
Written by Patrick White Award winner Jackie Smith, The Exotic Lives… digs into the history and impact of Lola Montez, a showgirl and burlesque artist who travelled throughout Australia during the goldrush in the 1850s.
“She was a smart chick. Tickets were auctioned in Sydney. They tried to arrest her off the coat of Sydney in boat and she threw off all her clothes and dived into her bunk dressed only in her jewels and said, ‘you’ll have to take me as I am’. She sailed on”.
The Exotic lives of Lola Montez is on now at Chapel Of Chapel until June 30.
