SmartArts: Bringing A Classic Into A New Era With Romeo & Julie
Richard Watts is joined by Director Kamarra Bell-Wykes & actor Damon Baudin from Red Stitch ahead of their staging of Romeo & Julie, a modern day love-story that draws inspiration from Shakespeare’s classic Romeo & Juliet.
The updated play, written by award winning playwright Gary Owen, shifts the tale to modern-day Wales, with Romeo as struggling single dad and Julie studying at Cambridge University.
“It’s that first love that I think that’s kept so purely from the Shakespeare as well… that all-encompassing first love that burns really fast and I think that’s there in our play too”.
