Breakfasters: Ponch Hawkes on Celebrating Women Over 50 in Her Latest Exhibit
Critically-acclaimed photographer Ponch Hawkes jumps into the studio to discuss her latest exhibit, 500 Strong with Fakefasters Jas, Celeste and Sam. Ponch speaks about the energy of the opening night, the focus on normalising aging bodies and the attitude differences towards nudity between Australia and Europe.
Now on display at the Museum of Australian Photography (MAPh), the exhibit features 500 nude women over the age of 50 aiming to empower a demographic who has been historically discouraged from embracing their body and celebrate the bodies of women over 50.
‘It’s very joyous, and it’s very playful and that’s the way I always intended it to be. For people to come in and feel comfortable with their photograph being taken and that we could have fun with it.’
