Neon Sunset: Viagra Boys Back in Australia to Chat Touring and Political Absurdity

Sebastian and Elias from the Viagra Boys chat with Sara Savage to talk about their new Australian tour and the evolving influences that shape their music. Since their last visit five years ago, they’ve released new albums, experimented with different styles, and drawn on transformative influences – including collaborations with Australia’s own Amy Taylor (Amyl and the Sniffers) and inspirations from Jason Williamson of Sleaford Mods.

Each Viagra Boys album brings a distinct flavour, with their recent release, Cave World, encapsulating the chaotic COVID-era as an audio time capsule.

A consistent thread across their work is political satire and a critique of our “absurd world.” Sebastian explains that their approach is less about direct political commentary and more about using satirical dark humour to delve into specific political themes. “Music is political in a way; it’s a form of protest,” he says.
