Breakfasters: Aunty Muriel Bamblett on the Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency's Work

Aunty Muriel Bamblett, CEO of the Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA), joins the Breakfasters off the back of being awarded Person of the Year at this year’s (2024) National NAIDOC Awards. A Yorta Yorta, Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung, Boon Wurrung Elder, Aunty Muriel has led VACCA as CEO since 1999 – tirelessly advocating for and advancing the interests of Aboriginal children, families and young people in Victoria.

She also talks about the organisation's recent name change: until recently, it was known as the Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency (VACCA) and is now the Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency. The name change reflects the organisation's significant growth in service delivery, and a recognition that children don't exist in isolation, and that their futures require strong, connected families, Elders, and communities.
