Local Character: Making The Birrarung Safe For Swimming
Kulja chats with Matt Sykes, the co-founder and convener of Swimmable Cities, an alliance that connects dozens of organisations across the world together.
The Goal? To make our urban waterways swimmable again – including the Birrarung.
“The First principle [of the Swimmable Cities Charter] is safe, healthy and swimmable; Urban Waterways should be accessible to all people. From that point, you start to say that swimming isn’t a luxury – it’s a right…. It’s about combining the rights to swim with the rights of nature.”
