Local And/Or General: Learning About ‘Michael’s Rule’ With AAM’s Maggie Collins
Jason Moore is joined by Maggie Collins, the Executive Director of the Association of Artist Managers (AAM) to discuss ‘Michael’s Rule’ - a proposed new law that would dictate that at least one local artist should be on the support line up of every international tour that visits the country.
Jas and Maggie dig into the history of “Michael’s Rule”, from its history as an unspoken code in the 90s-2000s to the current call for a legislated policy in order to support the Australian music scene, venues and bands.
Named in tribute to the late Michael McMartin (who managed The Hoodoo Gurus), the goal for Michael’s law is to create tangible policy to support the music industry at a time where where the local scene has seen a 24% reduction in small music venues while big ticket events are skyrocketing in popularity.
“Having an Australian on the line up - it also helps the venue. It increases their patronage and gets people out further and developing the local scene so that we actually have a scene for them to come and visit and really enjoy.”
