According to Yanis, the big tech firms have already overthrown the old world of capitalism – replacing it with a new power structure that has entire nations and entities like the EU reduced to renting ‘cloud capital’ from their new overlords.

“Your analogue identity is secured by the Australian Commonwealth or your State… they give you a driver’s license… you don’t have any equivalent on the internet… [and] on the basis of our non-ownership of our own digital identity we built a whole panoply of digital fiefdoms… like Uber, AirBNB and TikTok… that rely on the fact you don’t own your digital identity in order to enclose you in these digital fiefdoms and do various things with you.”
