Dylan Bird is joined by Rebecca Johnston Ryan, director and principal lawyer of Fitzroy Legal Service’s popular night program which provides free after-hours legal consultations throughout the week. Established in 1972, Fitzroy Legal Service was one of the first to offer free legal advice to the community, at a time when legal assistance was often expensive and difficult to access. With the release of the newly updated 2024 Law Handbook and the invaluable dedication of its volunteers, Fitzroy Legal Service continues to address the evolving legal challenges faced by the community.

Demand for community legal services has steadily increased, with the largest spike coming from cost-of-living issues such as fines, tenancy agreements, and housing standards. People need affordable legal advice now more than ever, and Fitzroy Legal Service remains a crucial resource.
