Future Perfect: From Silence To Sound With Ash Wednesday
Dylan Bird from Future Perfect sits down with Ash Wednesday, a central figure in Australian electronic and avant-garde music, to chat new album and the musical innovations driving it.
After a decade-long break due to progressive multiple sclerosis (MS), Ash is returning to the scene with a revolutionary new project where he utilises the vast power of the Melbourne Town Hall Grand Organ with MIDI technology.
Although MS robbed him of sensation on the right side of his body, Ash didn’t let it end his creative journey. Instead, he embraced technology to transform his ideas into sound: “I was waking up at 3am, and I would draw pictures into the music application on my phone. These illustrations would then transfer into long sweeping musical notes."
The result is a breathtaking, self-generating soundscape that harnesses the grand organ’s sheer force.
