Frantic Items: Pelican Daughters On Their Real World Ambience

Charlie Miller chats with Sydney based musicians Andy Rantzen and Justin Brandis from Pelican Daughters about their upcoming album, It’s Time My Friend, their first in 15 years. The duo recorded real world sounds on their phones, with magpies and ibises taking on vocal roles to create a unique "dirty ambience". They even sampled the fruit sellers at Queen Victoria Market, capturing their heightened senses in a new environment.

Released by se Dessaisir Publishing, the album signifies a major comeback for Rantzen and Brandis, showcasing a cutting-edge collection of post-industrial minimalist electronics.

Brandis on the listening potential, “I like that the album's name implies you’re not just listening to music, you’re listening to time. Music is time passing, and with this album, you’re experiencing time passing with your ears open.”
