Frantic Items: Looking Back To Look Forward With Alvvays
Canadian indie-rock group Alvvays return to Australian shores this month, playing at Meredith Music Festival as well as at Forum and Northcote Theatre in Melbourne.
While in Taipei on their Asia tour, vocalist and guitarist Molly Rankin chats to Charlie of Frantic Items about performing the sentimental songs of their critically acclaimed third album Blue Rev. Memories of swigging the album’s namesake drink at the ice rink with friends and hours spent watching music videos on Canadian channel Much are scattered in the lyrics.
Rankin maintains that the songwriting of Alvvays has one foot in the past and the other in the future, building new melodies from the established indie tradition. The interview also touches upon the group’s strong visual aesthetic and Rankin’s illustration of their recent tour posters.
