The Party Show: Cory Alpert on the US Elections
Cory Alpert served for three years in the White House during the Biden-Harris Administration, and joins Headley to share his analysis on the current election campaign, plus his reflections on 2016 when Trump was elected as the 45th president of the United States. He says of Hillary Clinton's context, back then:
"In general as Democrats, we were very overconfident, we didn't know the appeal that Trump had to a certain amount of the electorate. Our overconfidence – the pollsters and the media's overconfidence – and lack of understanding of the Trump phenomenon led to his election result."
With Joe Biden's withdrawal from the presidential race in July, and with Kamala Harris as the new presidential candidate for the Democrats, they also discuss the influence of 'backdoor negotiations' and Nancy Pelosi's influence, the part that celebrity endorsements play in harnessing a younger voter base, and the role of social media and mis/disinformation.
