Byte Into IT: Guido Melo On Changing The Future By Changing The Past With ‘AI Erasure’

Published multilingual author and Victorian University Masters Graduate, Guido Melo, discusses ‘AI Erasure’ – a term he coined himself in his research at Victorian University revolving around artificial intelligence’s ability to utilise datasets and modify the past due to a bias in user input. He expresses his concern for how datasets can become skewed due to demographics and how this could affect artefacts as basic as family cooking recipes all to follow a biased database.

‘What if my mum’s recipe changes because Google compares it to a European recipe and that’s the most data it has? ‘AI Erasure’ came from that. The idea that AI’s choices are so pervasive and so easy to utilise that really anyone can router and reshape the past’.
