Breaking and Entering: Jen Cloher’s Next Chapter in Aotearoa
Jen Cloher Joins Lauren and Simon on Breaking and Entering to chat about leaving Naarm and reconnecting with Māori culture.
As one chapter closes, another begins for Jen, the celebrated musician and co-founder of Naarm/Melbourne’s Milk! Records. Jen is saying farewell to Naarm with a series of deeply personal goodbye shows, honouring two decades of music and a profound connection to the city that shaped their career.
Jen is embarking on an inspiring new journey in Aotearoa, where they will undertake a full language immersion te reo Māori program in Ōtaki. This move represents a deep commitment to reconnecting with their whakapapa and honouring their Māori heritage.
Their latest album, I Am The River, The River Is Me, serves as both a reflection of this journey and a bold exploration of identity, ecology, and cultural reclamation.
While these farewells mark the end of an era, they also signal an exciting new beginning. Jen’s move to Aotearoa is not just a personal endeavour but a step toward amplifying Māori language and traditions through their music, creating a powerful platform for cultural celebration and connection.
