Breakfasters: Tony Wilson On His Documentary Football Film, Ange & The Boss
Co-Director Tony Wilson comes on to Breakfasters to introduce the new release Ange & the Boss, the story of Hungarian football coach Ferenc Puskás' time living in Australia during the 1980's and 90's.
Wilson chats about the importance of asking for the small, personal stories when interviewing for sport documentaries, painting the stories of sporting stars beyond just the goals they scored. When directing the film he avoided emphasising the results of famous games, but rather Puskás' place in Melbourne's Hunagrian and Greek communities.
"Puskás made people feel good, and the players loved being around him, it was almost like having your grandpa coach you."
Ange & the Boss is showing in Melbourne cinemas now.
