Breakfasters: Dr Binoy Kampmark on the Land Forces Protests
Dr Binoy Kampmark, international relations expert from RMIT University joins the Breakfasters to discuss the Land Forces land defence exposition and the ensuing protests. Held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) from September 11-13, and deemed the largest industry defence event ever held in Australia, exhibitors are all "in the business of making arms deals" where they can showcase their weapons, military technology, and "let's face it, instruments of death". He says that "there's no two ways of looking at it" in spite of officials and politicians treating it as a benign and innocuous enterprise just like 'any other business' in spite of the arms trade being worth $2.4 trillion per year.
Speaking from his personal experience and attendance on the first day of the protests, Dr Kampmark shares his analysis of the going-ons of what occurred between police and protesters amidst the noise of media frenzy.
