Banksia: Dr Vicki Couzens On Stolen Land, Stolen Language

Prominent artist and Gunditjmara Keerray Woorroong woman Dr Vicki Couzens joined Vanessa Morris on Banksia to speak about her work in Indigenous language across the continent.

She discusses the importance of language to First Nations people, how stolen land has resulted in stolen language, and the work in restorative justice through language and cultural reclamation, with Indigenous languages across the continent and around the globe endangered.

As Senior Knowledge Custodian for Possum Skin Cloak Story and Language Reclamation and Revival in her Keerray Woorroong Mother Tongue, Vicki also spoke about her important work in possum skin cloak story.

Vicki is developing her Project 'Mother Tongue: Language revitalisation through immersive practice' as the Vice Chancellor's Indigenous Research Fellow at RMIT.

Vicki Couzens will be speaking at the Footscray West Writers Festival happening this Sunday: Stolen Lands, Stolen Language.
