Marda Marda researcher, writer and producer Steve Kinanne joined Vanessa Morris on Banksia to talk about The Coolbaroo Club ahead of its screening at MIFF.

Co-wrote and co-produced by Steve The Coolbaroo Club was originally released in 1996 and restored by the National Film and Sound Archive.

It focuses on the history and experiences of Aboriginal people in Perth post-World War 2 through the Coolbaroo Club from 1946 to 1960.

The club’s organisers also went on to establish The Coolbaroo League which published a newspaper and became a political organisation advocating for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues.
