Banksia: Sophie Honess on Her Arts Practice and NAIDOC at the NGV

Gomeroi Yinarr textile artist and weaver Sophie Honess joined Vanessa Morris ahead of workshops and an in-conversation they will be having as part of the NGV's NAIDOC Week celebrations.

In discussing her creative practice of weaving and textiles, Sophie explained the process of developing her works part of the My Country exhibition, stemming from being on country, to reimagining country in watercolour, to translating that into a woolen tapestries.

Sophie also spoke about working with mentor Jonathan Jones and being part of Yinarr Maramali, a Gomeroi women cultural weaving collective.

Sophie will hosting workshops for teens on 10 and 11 July and in-coversation with Yatu Widders Hunt on 13 July
