Banksia: Kait James on Blak humour in art and curating 'moombarra' exhibition at Craft

Wadawurrung artist Kait James joins Vanessa Morris on Banksia ahead of opening exhibition moombarra which they are curating at Craft.

Moombarra which in Wadawurrung translates to ‘stick it up your arse’ is an irreverent phrase that encapsulates a profound commentary on the complexities of Indigenous identity, and the ongoing struggles against racism and tokenism.

Embracing Blak humour throughout the exhibition, it will feature work from artists Peter Waples-Crowe, Amina Briggs, Matthew Harris, Keemon Williams, Tammy Gilson and Ellie Franks.

Kait also spoke about work in the recent Blak Infinite show as part of Rising and their work travelling around Naarm as part of the art trams program.

Moombarra is at Craft from 29 June - 3 August.
