Banksia: Director Jesse Short Bull on Documentary Free Leonard Peltier

Acclaimed Director Jesse Short Bull of the Oglala Sioux Tribe joined Vanessa Morris on Banksia to discuss documentary Free Leonard Peltier.

Co-directed with David France, the documentary is an in-depth, archive-rich exploration into the controversial conviction and imprisonment of Indigneous activist Leonard Peltier since 1975 and the ongoing fight for freedom and efforts to secure his release.

Following the 1975 Pine Ridge shootout in Dakota, Leonard was convicted of killing two FBI agents, and maintained his innocence for 49 years in prison, until being released after decades in early in 2025.

Premiering at Sundance Festival a week after the release of Peltier, it will make a Southern Hemisphere premiere in Naarm in March.
