Banana Lounge Broadcasting: Kid Congo Powers On Why "Rhythm is King"
American rock icon Kid Congo Powers of The Gun Club and Bad Seeds fame joins Dave Graney to discuss his upcoming Australian tour with the Pink Monkey Birds. They discuss the role of arid, rural Arizona in Congo's new work, his time in the Cramps and why he believes "rhythm is king". Now being six bands in with the Pink Monkey Birds, the pair also explore the creative difficulty of forming and managing bands.
Congo also reflects on his recently released book "Some New Kind of Kick", an intimate, coming-of-age memoir detailing early days of The Gun Club and his experiences as a young, queer Mexican-American in 1970s Los Angeles.
Kid Congo & the Pink Monkey Birds will be touring Australia this April, stopping by The Corner Hotel on Thursday 18th of April and the Theatre Royal in Castlemaine on the 19th.
