Astral Glamour: Mercury Rev With A New Album And The Same Old Wisdom
Mercury Rev sat down with Joe from Astral Glamour to discuss their new album Born Horses, while sharing nuggets of rock-and-roll wisdom for all students of music.
Unhurried, lush, and serene — these three words encapsulate Born Horses, their first album in nine years, filled with entirely original material. The new project sees Jonathan deliver his lyrics in a mediative spoken word style, almost as If it were a transient floating sermon.
Mercury Rev spoke about the challenge of longevity, saying, “A part of the challenge of going long in the years is that as a person desire more and more of the same record or sound again, you walk the tightrope of uncertainty and consistency, where some artists abandon it altogether.”
As they embark on a new tour, Mercury Rev leaves us with one essential question on the transformative genre and theme: “We are not asking ourselves, ‘Is it rock?’ but, ‘Does it rock?’”
