Anaiwan Gedyura artist Gabi Briggs joined Vanessa Morris to talk about her exhibition ARKAN & IRBELA at West Space.

As the first filmic work from Gabi, it nurtures the legacy of the artists’ late nan Patsy Cohen’s research in the 1990 book Ingelbah and the Five Black Matriarchs and transforms West Space into a location for the two women to dialogue across time.

Gabi discussed the process of working with family in developing the work and as part of her current research, as well as her creative practice which includes weaving as part of Yinarr Maramali.
