The Distant Sky: Amyl & The Sniffers on Their New Album, Tall-Poppy Syndrome and the Band’s Love of Pickle Juice
Amy and Declan from Amyl & the Sniffers jump into the studio to chat about their latest album, Cartoon Darkness. They explain how the writing process took place in Melbourne, but they took the creative process internationally by recording it across the pond in Los Angeles. Starting with a conversation about their newly released album, Amy and Declan also touch on Australia's outlook on tall poppy syndrome and the effort of holding their own while achieving global success.
‘I feel like as someone who’s definitely experienced, I just want to validate people and say; ‘yeah it’s real’’ Amy expresses.
It’s no doubt that Amyl & the Sniffers have established themselves as one of Australia’s defining punk rockers but despite that, they’re still as grounded as ever, holding onto their classic sense of humour which you can clearly hear as Amy recounts a story of entering an airport on the way to Los Angeles;
“I reckon I’m almost famous enough to wear my sunglasses inside now,” Amy said, glancing over at Declan, who's already wearing his;
“mate, I’ve been famous enough for years.” The two chuckled.
