Helen Garner in Conversation on Backstory
Helen Garner is one of Australia’s most prominent writers. A feminist, novelist, short story writer, screenwriter and journalist, Helen’s work spans fiction, non-fiction and reportage. Her latest book, Yellow Notebook Diaries Volume 1 is drawn from her personal journals over the years spanning 1978 to 1987.
Helen tells Backstory’s Mel Cranenburgh, ‘I don’t understand people who don’t keep a diary… I mean, how do they stop themselves from going nuts?’ Helen says that working on the book allowed her to focus on one of her great passions: the editing process. She also reflects on her relationship with post-#metoo feminism.
Yellow Notebook Diaries Volume 1 is out now through Text Publishing.
