As we make our way through the depths of a chilly Melbourne winter we chatted about how to make the perfect roast potato; our top tips are to choose the correct spud (look for a sebago or dutch cream, ideally just brushed so you still have to clean them) and add half a teaspoon of bi-carb soda when you're par-boiling them. Yum!
Truffle Melbourne's Nigel Woods joined us in the studio to talk about Australia's burgeoning industry, which is now the fourth largest truffle producing country in the world. We chatted about the differences growing truffles in Australia vs Europe, why to avoid truffle oil, and where to buy the elusive fungus here in Melbourne.
Gabriel Gate has been synonymous with French cuisine in Australia for as long as any of us can remember, and we spoke to him about his most recent book So French So Sweet. If you're the sort of person that never cooks desserts, Gabriel recommends you aim to learn a new dish every few months to slowly expand your repertoire.
About this program
Food for thought: recipes, hints and tips, interviews and a market report.
It's one of those constants in this fair city; every Sunday at midday tune into the best radio station on earth for Eat It, Triple R's resident food show. No-one really knows quite how many years the show has been on-air, but it's been going long enough for us all to lose track. Each week Cam Smith and Matt Steadman take an hour to discuss every aspect of food and drink, including regular market reports, interviews with chefs and restaurateurs, chats with industry and lobby groups, emptying bottles with wine-makers and writers, answering listeners' questions, the occasional on-air cooking segment, and anything else we deem fit. Sometimes we'll even squeeze in a song or two.
