Vale Ollie Olsen
We’re deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Melbourne-born legend Ollie Olsen, a true pioneer and visionary. He was instrumental in shaping the underground scene over four decades, pushing boundaries in all directions, from punk to electronic music. His work with seminal bands like Whirlywirld, Orchestra of Skin and Bone, No, and Max Q inspired countless others and left a huge mark.
As the music director for Richard Lowenstein's cult film Dogs in Space, Ollie captured the spirit of an era. And in 1993, he co-founded Psy-Harmonics, a legendary record label that nurtured a new generation of artists and helped shape the electronic music landscape.
Later, with projects like Taipan Tiger Girls, Olsen continued to innovate with a tireless commitment to experimental music. And all along Ollie shared his knowledge through teaching and collaborations here and around the world.
Olsen’s induction into the Music Victoria Hall of Fame this year is a celebration of his lasting legacy. His passing is a profound loss, but his impact will endure. We’re deeply grateful for everything he gave to music and culture.
