Triple R sends deep condolences to friends, family and fans of Lee “Scratch” Perry, the reggae titan and revered dub pioneer who sadly passed away over the weekend. Very few can ever claim the impact that Perry has had – his legacy can be heard across the entire spectrum of modern music. In his fabled career Perry worked with Bob Marley, the Congos, Ari Up, The Clash, and numerous others. His studio techniques changed the landscape, inspiring countless more. His songs are sampled widely, by artists such as the Beastie Boys, who paid tribute to the legendary artist on their own song “Dr. Lee, PhD”. Keith Richards once described him as “a mystery. The world is his instrument. You just have to listen. More than a producer, he knows how to inspire the artist’s soul.” Scratch himself once said: “Music is magic. If you have good music, you have good magic.” We thank Lee “Scratch” Perry for his magical gifts.
