Thank You, Jonathan!
Mr Jonathan Alley has decided to hang up the headphones after broadcasting on Triple R for 29 years! What an incredible contribution.
Jonathan walked into the station on his first full day living in Melbourne and never looked back. He joined the Graveyard roster in late ’92, spent 13 years hosting Tough Culture on Tuesdays, then began Under The Sun on Sundays, from 6pm to 8pm, in December 2005.
Jonathan’s contribution doesn’t end there, though! He served as Volunteers Rep for several years and helped out at many Triple R events, OBs and Community Cups along the way.
But, in Jonathan’s words, “To everything, there is a season. I feel I’ve done what I’m going to do. As much as I genuinely still enjoy it every single week – as I hope is obvious – radio stations need to grow and keep moving.”
He will be missed, no doubt about it. But what an innings! And, as we all know, Triple R is just like the Hotel California – you can check out but you never really leave. We won’t let you be a stranger, Jonathan! Thanks for everything.
The final edition of Under The Sun will go to air on Sunday 20 March, 6pm.
Here’s a bunch of photos of Jonathan from over the years, behind the mic, with a stack of incredible guests, and at a whole host of unforgettable Triple R events. Enjoy.
