It was wet! It was windy! It was wild! It was... a draw?!
On Sunday 16 June, thousands of punters headed to Victoria Park for the 31st edition of the much loved Reclink Community Cup – an annual footy match between the 3RRR/PBS Megahertz and the Rockdogs FC to raise funds for Reclink Australia.
The Megaz were out to defend their three-peat, while the Rockdogs were out to reclaim the cup. Who would prevail?
While the Megahertz started out strong with a two goal lead after the first quarter, the Rockdogs fought back, and at three quarter time looked poised to be crowned victorious.
But with only a few minutes left in the final term, a thumping goal from Get Down's Chris Gill brought the house down and the Megaz back into contention.
And with mere seconds left to play, Press Colour’s Sam Cummins kicked for goal, with Breakfasters' Mon Sebire shepherding the ball over the goal line. The mighty Megaz were rewarded with…. a behind? It was touched! And to the scorecard, a single equalising point only seconds before the final siren.
No losers, all winners, all grinners!
Thanks to all the off-field entertainment as well – Floodlights, Kaiit, Ross Wilson & The Peaceniks, Teether & Kuya Neil, The Vovos, Whistle & Trick, and Breaking And Entering DJs Lauren Taylor and Simon Winkler. We're already looking forward to the next Community Cup!
Final score: Megahertz 3.2.20 draw Rockdogs FC 3.2.20
