Live at RRR, This April Amnesty!
This April, EXEK, The Exploding Universe of Ed Kuepper, Grace Cummings, Mildlife and POOKIE perform Live at RRR, to help celebrate April Amnesty!
April Amnesty is Triple R’s month-long subscription and donation drive. It’s a time when the station calls upon those who listen to and love the station to subscribe and donate if they haven’t already done so, and keep the independent media goodness alive!
Anyone who subscribes to Triple R during April will enter the draw to win some pretty fantastic prizes. Plus, only Triple R Subscribers get the chance to attend exclusive gigs in the station’s very own purpose-built venue, the Triple R Performance Space – which has previously hosted the likes of Amyl and the Sniffers, King Stingray, Dry Cleaning, J Mascis, Angie McMahon, Yazmin Lacey, Wet Leg and more!
Of course, April Amnesty is also a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the station, and Triple R is doing just that, by inviting some of our favourite artists to play in the best sounding room in Melbourne!
Local sextet EXEK returns to the Performance Space on Friday 5 April, hosted by Joe Brnadic of Astral Glamour. The band will play tracks from their sixth studio album - and former Triple R Album of the Week - The Map and The Territory. They'll showcase their eclectic sound, seamlessly blending punk, dub, no wave, hip hop, jazz, and even classical arrangements, all pieced together by the sardonic poetry of band leader Albert Wolski.
On Monday 8 April, Triple R hosts a rare live performance from The Exploding Universe of Ed Kuepper, performing classic tracks from one the most storied back catalogues in Australian music history. Hosted by Neil Rogers of The Australian Mood, they’ll also be celebrating the remastered, reissued vinyl release of Kuepper's 1992’s solo effort Black Ticket Day, and the 1984 classic Law Of Nature, from Kuepper's influential post-Saints outfit, Laughing Clowns.
In the same week, catch a captivating live set from Grace Cummings! On Friday 12 April, she’ll be performing songs from her new album Ramona, hosted by Clara Slewa of Velvet Haze. Fusing folk, blues, and orchestral rock arrangements, Ramona shows Cummings' profound vocal strength. Her lyrics reflect on grief, self-destruction, and emotional violence.
Then on Friday 19 April, Triple R subscribers will be treated to a cosmic set from Melbourne's Mildlife, hosted by John Bailey of Stolen Moments. Playing songs from Chorus, their recent Triple R Album of the Week, Mildlife bring their psychedelic grooves back to the Performance Space - with added notes of Polish jazz, Italo disco, and modern electronic sounds.
And wrapping up an incredible month of live music, catch POOKIE, the dynamic Boorloo/Perth-based producer, songwriter, composer, DJ, and MC on Friday 26 April, hosted by Bumpy and Emmy of Pebbles. Her music blends elements of Hip-Hop, Afro-jazz, R&B, and Soul - a powerful showcase of her South Sudanese heritage, and a unique artistry that's in constant evolution.
April Amnesty performances are available for Triple R Subscribers only – so make sure to be a subscriber for the chance to come along! And anyone who subscribes by 11:59pm Tuesday 30 April will also automatically go in the draw to win some excellent prizes, including a 10-day trip to Vietnam, festival passes, handmade furniture, wireless earbuds, wine packs, vouchers, a laptop and more!
Anyone can subscribe and donate during April via the Triple R website: rrr.org.au.
