You're A Liar, Girl is the latest album from local artist Sunny Morris. It reflects her evolution as an artist, moving away from earlier folk styles toward more expansive arrangements. Across the album Morris delves into themes of childhood, family relationships, and societal expectations, creating a portrait of a trans woman's experience.
Produced with Liam Halliwell (aka Snowy), You're A Liar, Girl embraces orchestral elements. String and horn sections add rich textures to the songs, which range from tender ballads such as 'Mother, It's Not My Fault' to rock-driven tracks like 'Defect Woman'.
In a recent interview with Sam Cummins on Press Colour, Morris discussed the early songwriting influences of Bob Dylan and, more recently, Nina Simone. Her songs are filled with deeply moving lyrics and cathartic musical moments.
