Electronic Arts is the second full-length from Naarm/Melbourne dance music mainstays Maryos Syawish and Corey Kikos aka Sleep D, out now via their own label Butter Sessions.
Electronic Arts mirrors the full spectrum of the live Sleep D experience, showcasing the eclecticism of their mercurial brand of club music, brought sharply into focus here through melodic songcraft and clever studio embellishments.
Over the last decade, Sleep D have found themselves at the centre of Melbourne's electronic and dance music scene through their legendary parties and festival sets. while also nurturing talent through their label Butter Sessions and Maryos' offshoot label Research Records. Electronic Arts feels like the manifestation of years spent fully immersed in a musical community, expertly referencing the shifting trends that have emerged on the dancefloors of Melbourne and beyond.
On Electronic Arts the sonic alchemy never feels haphazard, forever anchored in the musical DNA at the heart of the duo. Whether through the ethnographic samples that reference Maryos Syawish's Iraqi and Syrian heritage, or utilisation of former futsal team member and musical peer YL Hooi’s vocals, the sonic world of the record is entirely their own.
The end result is an exhilarating 56 minute journey, guided by a duo at the top of their game.
